Expert Pallet Repair That Saves You Up to 60%
A damaged pallet does not have to be a discarded pallet. Our skilled repair crews restore broken, worn, and non-compliant pallets to full working condition — at a fraction of the cost of buying new.
12 Common Pallet Repair Types
Our repair crew handles every type of pallet damage you are likely to encounter. Here is a detailed look at the 12 most common repair types we perform, along with our approach to each one.
Broken Top Deck Boards
Cracked or snapped top deck boards are the single most common pallet damage. These boards bear the weight of your product and take direct impact from forklifts. We remove the broken board entirely and replace it with a same-size, same-thickness piece of quality lumber secured with ring-shank nails for maximum holding strength. The replacement board is flush-cut to match the original pallet dimensions precisely.
Split Stringers
Stringers are the backbone of a pallet. When they split or crack from impact, overloading, or age, the entire pallet loses structural integrity. We repair split stringers using companion boards — reinforcement pieces nailed alongside the damaged area to restore full load-bearing capacity. For severe splits, we may replace the stringer entirely using reclaimed lumber that matches the original specification.
Missing Lead Boards
Lead boards — the outermost deck boards on each side — take the most forklift abuse because they are the first point of contact when forks enter the pallet. When they snap off or go missing, the pallet becomes unsafe for handling. We install new lead boards using properly sized lumber and secure them with structural-grade fasteners. Lead board repairs are among our most frequent and fastest repair types.
Block & Connector Repair
Block pallets rely on nine or more blocks and connector plates for structural support. When blocks crack from compression or impact, or when connectors loosen and detach, we replace them with properly sized components sourced from our reclaimed parts inventory. All fastening points are re-secured to restore the pallet to its original load-bearing specification and four-way fork entry capability.
Board Delamination & Rot
Prolonged exposure to moisture causes wood fibers to separate (delaminate) or develop fungal rot. Delaminated and rotted boards have drastically reduced load-bearing capacity and must be replaced. We identify all compromised boards through visual and manual inspection, remove them, and install fresh lumber. Pallets destined for food or pharmaceutical use receive extra scrutiny for any signs of rot or mold.
Paint and Marking Contamination
Some industries require clean, unmarked pallets or pallets with specific markings for tracking and compliance. We can remove unauthorized paint, ink, or marking contamination from pallets through sanding and cleaning. We can also apply customer-specific markings, color coding, or identification stamps as required by your supply chain partners.
Repair vs. Replace — Detailed Cost Comparison
The numbers speak for themselves. Here is a detailed comparison of repair costs versus replacement costs across different damage levels and monthly volumes.

| Moderate (2-3 boards) | $4.50 | $14.00 | $9.50 | $57,000 |
| Significant (boards + stringer) | $5.50 | $14.00 | $8.50 | $51,000 |
| Heavy (multiple components) | $6.50 | $14.00 | $7.50 | $45,000 |
| Maximum (near total rebuild) | $7.50 | $14.00 | $6.50 | $39,000 |

Our mobile repair team sets up on your dock or in your yard and repairs pallets on the spot, eliminating transportation time and getting pallets back into service immediately.
The on-site program is designed for operations processing 200 or more pallets per week that need repairs done quickly without the logistics of transporting pallets to and from our facility. Our crews arrive with all necessary tools, materials, and lumber to handle the most common repair types right at your location.
On-site repair is particularly valuable for distribution centers that cannot afford to have pallets out of circulation even for 24-48 hours, for food and pharmaceutical operations that need to maintain chain-of-custody documentation, and for facilities in remote locations where transportation costs would be prohibitive.
On-Site Program Includes
NWPCA Standards Compliance
The National Wooden Pallet and Container Association (NWPCA) is the industry body that establishes quality and safety standards for the pallet industry in the United States. Their Pallet Design System (PDS) and Uniform Standard for Wood Pallets provide the benchmarks against which all professional pallet repair work should be measured.
At USA Pallet Recycle, we do not just follow NWPCA standards — we build them into every step of our repair process. Our repair crews are trained on NWPCA specifications. Our quality inspectors use NWPCA checklists. Our repair materials meet NWPCA requirements. When you receive a repaired pallet from us, you can be confident that it will perform safely and reliably in your supply chain.
Compliance with NWPCA standards is not just about quality — it is about liability protection. Pallets that fail under load can cause product damage, worker injuries, and costly insurance claims. Using an NWPCA-compliant repair provider gives you a defensible position and demonstrates due diligence in your supply chain safety practices.
Our Quality Commitments
Before and After — What Repair Looks Like
Here are detailed descriptions of common repair scenarios showing the condition of pallets before and after our repair process.
How Our Repair Process Works
Assessment
Every pallet is individually inspected. We identify all damage points and determine whether repair is economically viable versus replacement. You receive a detailed assessment before any work begins.
Disassembly
Damaged components are carefully removed. Usable hardware is retained. Damaged boards and stringers are separated for reclamation. Nothing is wasted in this process.
Repair & Rebuild
New components are installed using quality lumber that matches the original specifications. All fasteners are ring-shank nails for superior hold. Companion boards reinforce weakened stringers.
Quality Check
Each repaired pallet undergoes our full 20-point quality inspection against NWPCA standards. Only pallets that pass every checkpoint are approved for return to service.
